Members of the Spanish Royal Family have once again used their annual summer stay in Mallorca to shine a light on local community initiatives. While King Felipe VI managed official state duties including high-level meetings regarding the Ceuta migration situation and national wildfire responses Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía paid an unexpected visit to Casa Esment in Palma.
Founded in 1962, Casa Esment focuses on advocating for individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disorders. The foundation provides comprehensive lifelong support, offering programs in vocational training, employment, accessible housing, and elder care to combat social isolation and foster personal independence.
During their tour, the royal delegation visited the organization's printing facility, an active commercial workshop that has provided real-world job training and graphic design experience for over four decades. The Queen and her daughters met directly with staff members to learn about their daily operations and the foundation's broader goal of building an inclusive, rights-based society.
Sailing Regattas and Official Engagements
The visit formed part of a busy seasonal itinerary for the monarchy on the island:
- King Felipe VI: Took the helm of the Hispania during the Copa del Rey sailing regatta, continuing a longstanding royal sporting tradition alongside his regular crew.
- Queen Letizia: Headlined the closing ceremony for the 16th Atlántida Mallorca Film Fest, a prominent hybrid film festival dedicated to bringing international cinema to wider audiences.
- Marivent Palace Reception: The King and Queen hosted the traditional summer gathering for Balearic civic leaders and community figures.
The annual reception was also attended by Queen Sofía, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía, marking a poignant moment for the former Queen during her first summer stay following the passing of her sister, Princess Irene, and her cousin, Princess Tatiana Radziwill.
